When he approached you, he never thought about love, because he did not love you. He only thought about how he could take from you, until you were left a dried-out husk.
He just told you that he loved you, and he led you on. He probably mentioned your future together, and even marriage.
These types of NPD men are a dime a dozen.
Are fanservice-y characters (i.e. Lara Croft, Tifa Lockhart) immediately bad?
This one is easy to answer.
He never loved you.
You gave him everything. That is what he was after.
